First meeting of ISC Executive Committee was held at the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology (RICeST)
First meeting of the ISC Executive Committee members was held on Saturday, 25 April, 2009 with the presence of the representatives from Iraq for Arabic countries, Sudan for African countries, and Malaysia for south east Asian countries, ISESCO and Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, I. R. of Iran at the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology.
In this meeting Dr. Jafar Mehrad, president of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), announced that the center has been established as an independent research institution in Shiraz since this year and it is affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran . The center is financially supported by the Iranian government.
Dr. Bilal, the ISESCO representative, pointed out that the establishment of this system is an effective factor in elevating the scientific and research status of Islamic countries. He affirmed that Iran -since it is located in the center of Islamic and other neighboring countries- is the best place for establishing such a center which can be helpful in the scientific development of these countries.
Dr. Almawlawi from Iraq also confirmed that existence of the Islamic World Science Citation Center removes the gaps between Islamic and developed countries. He said that since there are different local languages in the Islamic world, this center covering all local and national languages is considered as a suitable basis for the future researches.
Dr. Rujhan Mustafa, the Malaysian representative expressing his pleasure regarding the existence of such a center declared that the second meeting of the Islamic World Science Citation Center will be held on 6-7 June 2009 in Malaysia.
